Description: Email preservation requires a complex interplay of personal skills and human/computer interactions to make decisions and execute preservation strategies. Accordingly, the tutorial will clearly speak to the overall conference theme of the art in science and the science in art. More specifically, it will highlight advances in technological infrastructure, including tools to process, preserve and store email, as part of sustainable local repositories and communities. Finally, the tutorial will communicate and take feedback regarding the main conclusions of the Task Force on Technical Approaches to Email Archives, an essential step toward the collaboration and increased capacity that will help archives preserve and make email records available for historical interrogation and analysis--a major theme emerging from discussions of the topic of email archiving at the Spring 2018 executive roundtables to facilitate progress in this area, hosted by the Coalition for Networked Information.
