Wiki Version:

This project hosts the open access treatment manual for STAT (Short-term Transdiagnostic Anxiety Treatment). If you want to support making treatment manuals open access you can buy me a coffee here.

The goals of this treatment structure are to: 1. Increase the accessibility of treatment for patients 2. Increase the efficiency of treatment while retaining efficacy 3. Apply brief intervention principles to increase outside of session work

This protocol can be adapted for any specific anxiety disorder diagnosis/to target multiple disorders simultaneously.

The protocol calls for 7 sessions. The first session is 1.5 hours, sessions 2-5 are 1 hour, and sessions 6-7 are 30 minutes (6.5 total hours of therapist contact time). All sessions could be done in-person or via video conference. Sessions 6-7 could be done over the phone if videoconference is not feasible.

Sessions 1-5 are done on consecutive days (preferably weekdays starting on a Monday). Session 6 is ~1 week after Session 5, Session 7 is ~3 weeks after Session 6.

Session 1 involves rapport building, psychoeducation, creation of exposure hierarchies, an initial exposure exercise, and assignment of outside of session work (exposures followed by another saying is believing activity)

Sessions 2-5 involve reviewing outside of session work via photo/video evidence, in-session exposures of intense and escalating difficulty, fading of safety behaviors, and assigning outside of session exposures of escalating difficulty

Sessions 6-7 involve reviewing outside of session work via comments in the HabitShare app and photo/video evidence, psychoeducation around lapse vs. relapse, and patient-directed relapse prevention planning
