For each pre-registration, check the files section to find the replication recipe document that was uploaded and controlling for the conduct of that study. ---------- Background ---------- The goal of this project was to a conduct a high-powered and precise replication of the effect of red on attractiveness. Specifically, this project attempted to replicate two findings. The first, conducted by Elliot and Niesta (2008), found a link between presence of the color red and increased ratings of attractiveness of women, when viewed by men. The followup to this study, conducted by Elliot, Kayser, Greitemeyer, Lichtenfeld, Gramzow, Maier, and Liu (2010) found the same effect to be present in women viewing men in presence of the color red. This project examined both types of red effects (women rating photos of men; men rating photos of women). Two different replications were completed: * An online MTurk Study * An in-person study We developed this replication primarily from Study 3 in the 2008 paper (same materials, same DVs, etc. for this study of men rating women). This study was selected because it uses 2 photos rather than 1, and has 3 DVs related to attractiveness (attractiveness, sexual attraction, and likeability). For women rating men, we used the same design (2 photos, 3 DVs) as the 2008 Exp 3 for men, but with the photos from experiments 1 and 3 of the 2010 study. In addition, we have added important controls from across the 2008 and 2010 study (e.g. check for colorblind, check for sexual orientation). Although the overall experiment combines across elements of the 2008 and 2010 papers, the essential details of the study represent precise replications. ---------- References ---------- Elliot, A.
