Predictive algorithms are used in a range of contexts from grocery stores stocking shelves to courtrooms setting bail. Our research examined public comfort levels with such algorithm use based on who it was affecting and in what context. We found that while comfort levels varied across our 8 scenarios, there was no difference between participants considering the individual versus societal level.
