Description: This project aims to revisit the well-known “revenge paradox” (Carlsmith et al., 2008) and take it forward from an alternative perspective. We propose that revenge makes people feel good, but experiencing the positive feelings from punishing the wrongdoer makes people feel bad about themselves (ultimately making revenge bitter). More precisely, the very experience of happiness, pleasure, and satisfaction from taking revenge makes people doubt their morals, causing them to experience feelings of anger, anxiety, and shame.
