Description: In Studies 1 to 3, we found that participants’ feelings of being moved and their disposition to feel moved was a strong predictor of their feelings of profundity. This suggests that feelings of being moved might be a source of feelings of profundity. In Study 4, we put this causal hypothesis to test by investigating the effect of an experimental induction of feelings of being moved (through music) on participants’ profundity ratings. Our main hypothesis were (1) that participants’ profundity ratings would be higher in the “moving music condition”, compared to the two other conditions and (2) that this effect would be moderated by participants’ tendency to feel moved (as measured by the GSS).
