Description: Routine failure to appear by litigation defendants threatens the integrity of the judicial system. We randomized whether debt collection defendants were mailed letters providing information on how to answer lawsuits and urging them to appear and contest. Outcomes included whether an answer was filed and whether the defendant appeared in the litigation.
