Description: This corpus study of historical semantic change found that the meanings of some mental health-related concepts have broadened to be used in less emotionally intense contexts and more pathology-related contexts in corpora reflecting academic psychology and general language, lending support to the notion that people are normalizing mental illness (vertical concept creep) and construing everyday emotional and behavioral states as pathological.
