This directory contains the replication materials for "The State of Open Science in the Social Sciences: Survey and Audit Evidence on Practices and Attitudes" The contents, aside from this ReadMe, include
- ./requirements.txt: Lists required packages and versions used in the original analysis.
- ./install_reqs.R: Installs the required packages.
- ./BITSS3S_Round2.Rproj: an R project file that will assure all the directories work correctly.
- ./skeleton_r1_min.Rmd: an R Markdown notebook which produces all of the figures and statistics presented in the main text of the paper.
- ./skeleton_r1_appendix_figures.R: An R script that produces a set of additional appendix figures based on survey response data.
- ./skeleton_r1_appendix_tables.R: An R script that produces a set of additional appendix tables based on survey response data.
- ./skeleton.css: CSS for knitting notebook.
- ./bld/anon-data.RData: A collection of anonymized datasets used in the analyses.
- ./src/pre_analysis/analysis_tools.R: Tools (mostly) for running regressions.
- ./src/analysis/plot_templates.R: Set up plots.
- ./src/analysis/skeleton_tools.R: Assorted helper functions.
- ./src/analysis/load-data-min.R: Create the anonymous data sets from PII data (not included in the replication package).
- ./bld/figs/: An empty directory to which figures are saved.
- ./audit_code: Two Stata .do scripts used to analyze the hand audit data (which is not included to protect subject anonymity).
In addition to the required packages, R version > 4.0.0 is required. To ensure you have all of the required packages, run `install_reqs.R`.

MAIN FILE
1) Knit skeleton_r1_min.Rmd.
2) Wait while HTML knits
APPENDIX FIGURES
1) Run skeleton_r1_appendix_figures.R
2) Wait while figures output
APPENDIX TABLES
1) Run skeleton_r1_appendix_tables.R.
2) Wait while tables output (note: they are not saved anywhere)
(note: that the tables after line 681 require PII not included in the replication package)
TROUBLESHOOTING FIGURES

There are sometimes errors caused by packages interacting with RStudio. We note that the preferences for the Graphics Device should be default, and not ACG and also that the figure viewer should be set sufficiently large to prevent a "Viewport has zero dimension(s)" error.
**NOTE**: Because some of the appendix tables rely on potentially identifying information, they are not replicable using this package.
CSV FILES

We have added CSV versions of the files. Some limited information information may have been lost in the export from Rdata files; these versions of the data have not been extensively tested.
