This project contains materials created and presented by Brianna Marshall and Michele Potter as part of a 3-hour preconference "How to Start and Sustain an Awesome Makerspace" at the 2019 [Makerspaces for Innovation and Research in Academics (MIRA) conference][1].
The workbook is a reflective tool for users who, as the title suggests, are interested in starting or sustaining a makerspace or maker services. We hope it will be useful to not only help demystify some of the practicalities involved in running a makerspace, but also to provide a structured way to think about intentionally infusing your values as you build your makerspace over time. In short, we created the resource we really wished we had when we started managing the [Creat'R Lab makerspace][2] at the University of California, Riverside Library in 2017! You'll find additional context about the Creat'R Lab in the slides that are included alongside the workbook.
We are licensing these materials using a CC BY 4.0 license in the hopes that they will be shared and used widely. This is only a starting point - but we hope it will give you some momentum! We invite others working in library makerspaces to adapt and remix this workbook, and to openly share your own creations as we grow our collective wisdom.
