In most documented languages, the same element (e.g. English herself, German selbst, Mandarin ziji) is used for adnominal and adverbial intensification:
(1) Tim himself baked his cake. [adnominal]
(2) Tim baked his cake himself. [adverbial]
The specificities of the adverbial reading in (2) have led all previous studies to propose (at least) two different lexical entries for adnominal and adverbial intensifiers. We propose a unified analysis (here shown for English herself), extending it to adnominal intensifiers (e.g. own).
