Description: In this project, we explore the role that grammatical aspect plays in mental model construction. Specifically, we focus on imperfective and perfective verbs and how they influence the perception of event structure in narratives. In Experiments 1, we vary aspect and use an event segmentation task as our dependent measure. In Experiment 2, we replicate the results of Experiment 1 but also vary event duration. Experiment 3 is a follow-up to Experiment 2. We use a story continuation task to explore the effects of aspect and event duration on the perception of temporal boundaries.
