This archive contains materials documenting and describing Eibela, also called Aimele [(ISO-639 AIL)][1], which were gathered in Lake Campbell and Wawoi Falls as part of a PhD project at James Cook University in 2012-2016. This project will ultimately produce a grammar of the language along with a dictionary and a corpus of texts. Eibela is a previously undocumented language in the Mount Bosavi region of Papua New Guinea. It is mostly spoken in Western Province by approximately 300 speakers, but a handful of speakers may exist in the Southern Highlands Province. Vernacular Education is not available, and children are increasingly adopting other surrounding languages or the national language Tok Pisin as a primary language.
