Wiki Version:
****Readme for Analytic thinking predicts accuracy ratings and intentions to share COVID-19 misinformation in Australia**** This project aims to test the classical account of misinformation perception during the COVID-19 pandemic with Australian participants. This repository contains five documents: 1. **Preregistration (pdf)** - this document contains the hypotheses and data analysis plan for our study. Note that the hypotheses relating to vaccine attitudes will be addressed in a separate study. 2. **Data file (csv)**- this file contains the tabluar data used in our analyses and adheres to [generally accepted guidelines for data organisation and presentation][1]. 3. **Question instrument (pdf)*** - this document provides the question text in order of presentation to our participants and includes information about which variables were randomised or when participants were randomly allocated into different groups. Note that his includes questions used for the [National identity predicts public health support during a global pandemic][2] study. To see only those questions used for this project you may wish to refer to the codebook. 3. **Codebook (csv)** - this spreadsheet provides the variable names, descriptions, variable types, question instrument text, response options, the number of missing observations for each variable, and, the origin of our questions (note that some of our questions came from the [National identity predicts public health support during a global pandemic][2] study, and others were additional questions only put to Australian participants for the purposes of this project). It also describes the calculations that were used for our computed variables for this project. 4. **Analysis code (R script)** - this programming code is for the statistical program R (version 4.03). In addition to providing code for the analyses used in this project, it also includes code for calculating our computed variables. Note also that histograms for our variables are available in our supplementary materials. **Data collection** Data was collected between 2 May and 12 May 2020, 45-55 days following the formal declaration of a human biosecurity emergency in Australia due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The investigators contracted Lucid to conduct the data collection via their online panel. Funding was provided by each of the investigators' institutions. **Sharing and Accessing Information** There are no restrictions on the use of our data. **Contacts** The principal investigator for this project is Matthew S Nurse from the Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science at the Australian National University's College of Science. We would be happy to answer any questions about this reasearch and its implications.
