* `participant_log.csv` is a logbook with notes about participants/sessions that was kept during data collection. It contains the following columns: * __ID__: participant number, e.g. "S01", "S28" * __session__: session number, i.e. "1" or "2" * __tDCS\_code\_TRIAL__: identifies which tDCS polarity (anodal or cathodal) was used during the 2-minute trial tDCS block in this session. See `tDCS_blinding.md` for all the possible codes and the key relating them to tDCS polarity * __tDCS\_code\_REAL__: identifies which tDCS polarity (anodal or cathodal) was used during the 20-minute tDCS block in this session. See `tDCS_blinding.md` for all the possible codes and the key relating them to tDCS polarity * __time\_planned__: scheduled time slot for the session,in `WEEKDAY DD.MM.YY HH:MM` format format (e.g. "Fri 10.06.2016 14:00") * __duration__: time between participant entry and exit, in minutes * __wait\_time__: time between tDCS offset and participant exit, in minutes (IRB required minimum of 30 minutes) * __tDCS\_impedance: value read off the tDCS device when using the manual impedance check, before onset of the trial stimulation, in kOhm * __reward__: either €10 or 1 research credit (RC) per hour, so typically €65,- or 6.5 RCs in total (at some point entries switch to just _cash_ or _credit_) * __notes__: notes on technical issues, participant quirks, etc. Also contains notes on EEG signal quality during the task (data not analyzed in this project). * `sEBR_log.csv` is a logbook with notes taken during processing of the EEG data for measuring spontaneous Eye Blink Rate (sEBR). It contains the following columns: * __ID__: participant number; matches column in `participant_log.csv` * __session__: sesion number; matches column in `participant_log.csv` * __tDCS\_code__: code for tDCS polarity; matches _tDCS\_code\_REAL_ column in `participant_log.csv` * __EEG_experience__: _y_ when participant was previously in an EEG study, _n_ when not. This was measured because we thought this might affect sEBR (as EEG study participants typically get told that blinks are bad for the signal) * __EMG_periods_moderate__: Indices in seconds where _moderate_ EMG occurs in the raw data (this can affect the independent component analysis). * __EMG_periods_strong__: Indices in seconds where _strong_ EMG occurs in the raw data (this can affect the independent component analysis). * __blink_IC__: Index of the selected independent component that captured the eye blinks. The components are sorted by descending order of explained variance, so usually this will be a low number, as blinks are large in amplitude. * __EOG_inverted__: For most participants, blinks are positive in the selected independent component (_n_); but for some blinks have a negative polarity (_y_). The signal is then inverted during processing so the threshold is of the same sign in all participants. * __threshold__: Minimum amplitude that a sample should exceed to be considered a blink. This is set automatically by the scripts, but can be changed by the user whenever the initial guess is too low/high. * __blinks_doubt__: Indices in seconds of peaks in the signal that could be blinks, but were not classified as such. * __blinks_added__: Indices in seconds of peaks in the signal that the analyst determined were blinks, but were originally _not_ classified as such. * __blinks_removed__: Indices in seconds of peaks in the signal that the analyst determined were _not_ blinks, but were originally classified as such. * __blink_rate__: spontaneous Eye Blink Rate as it was output by the finished processing scripts, copy-pasted into here. * __notes__: comments on signal quality, or deviations from procedures that should be followed to reproduce the results. * `study_protocol.pdf` lists all the procedures that were followed to collect the data, particularly the tDCS and EEG setup. * `questionnaires/` contains the questionnaires (empty, see the `data/` folder for the data) that were administered. * `tDCS_blinding.md` contains information on the participant- and experimenter blinding procedure, including the keys linking all tDCS codes used in filenames with the actual tDCS polarities (anodal and cathodal).
