Wiki Version:
The video presentation is now online (31min). Abstract: I analyze quantificational variability effects (QVE) that arise in connection with adverbs of quantity focusing on German 'größtenteils' (~ Engl. 'for the most part'). Based on a new, formal proposal on how to capture 'größtenteils' and its quantificational behavior, I analyze the QVE that arise between 'größtenteils' and overt DPs, as well as implicit agents in eventive short passives. I show that the QVE-interpretation can be captured compositionally with a purely semantic account of implicit agents, showing that these interpretations cannot be used to argue that implicit agents are syntactically represented.
