# Questionnaire background
This questionnaire was developed in a joint effort of three large doctoral researcher representations in Germany, organized under the umbrella of [N² – the network of doctoral researcher networks](https://www.phdnet.mpg.de/n2). Participating representations were from the Helmholtz Association ([Helmholtz Juniors](https://www.helmholtz.de/karriere-talente/wissenschaft/promovierende/helmholtz-juniors/)), Leibniz Association ([Leibniz PhDnet](https://leibniz-phd.net/)) and Max Planck Society ([Max Planck PhDnet](https://www.phdnet.mpg.de/home/de)) in 2018 and 2019.
The survey was administered to over 15,000 doctoral researchers in early autumn 2019. Summaries of the results of this first field phase of this questionnaire can be found in the following reports:
