Description: This proposal was to establish an MLA Research Training Institute for health sciences librarians to improve their research skills and increase their research output. Improving the research competencies of health sciences librarians and growing the body of health information knowledge was central to the MLA Research Imperative Task Force (RITF) goals. A key strategy in accomplishing these goals was to increase the research competencies, output, and communication of health sciences librarians. The proposal called for a five-day training program, offered on an annual basis, to educate and support health sciences librarians in their efforts to complete a research project (institute criteria). The RITF with the assistance of a planning group of the foremost experts in the area of research instruction, crafted the following plan and curriculum for the proposed Institute. The RITF fully endorsed the vision and planning framework set forth. The proposal was approved by the MLA Board of Directors in 2016.
