Description: This Opinion and Hypothesis paper explores the Covid-19 pandemic against the background of global climate change. It is a cross-discipline study that examines interdependences in our environment at a hierarchy of scales; from the inner mind-body system, to the interactions of individuals within society, to at the outermost level the interactions of complete societies with the planet. These interactions are described as hierarchical Markov-blanket systems, whose properties shed light on how such hierarchical interactions may become unstable, contributing to reciprocal chaotic and destructive change at the outer level of climate change, and at the inner societal level evidenced by the current Coronavirus pandemic.
