Description: Increasing transparency in scientific reports is crucial for trust, reproducibility, and research integrity, advancing knowledge and innovation. To enhance transparency, the first step is objective assessment when measuring current transparency, identifying shortcomings, and assessing improvements post-intervention. We introduce a new tool and proof of concept. Using a checklist, we evaluated Method Transparency in 180 papers from top psychology journals (2011 and 2021). The Transparency Of Methods (TOM) score summarizes each paper's transparency level, ranging from 0 (no transparency) to 1 (full transparency). Results affirm checklist's potential for assessing transparency but highlighting areas for improvement. This work emphasizes the ongoing need for improved methods' transparency, introducing a valuable evaluation tool.
