Description: Independence Project is an evaluation aimed at helping unemployed veterans who have applied for a disability rating and recently separated from active duty. The study design is a randomized controlled trial to comparing an intensive employment model (National Career Coach Program) to usual community employment services available to (Local Community Resources). We will enroll 400 participants and follow them over a three-year period. The primary outcome domains are competitive employment and Veteran Disability Compensation benefits. We will use an intent-to-treat approach to evaluating the primary outcome, administrative employment earnings data reported to the IRS for three calendar years following the study recruitment year (2018). Secondary outcomes include quality of life, symptoms, and other self-report measures assessed at baseline and annually for 3 years.
