Description: Abstract Before the arrival of Europeans, the distribution of the livelihoods of the Madurese was part of the duties of the kingdom. Before the VOC entered Madura, the result of agricultural products was not to raise the prosperity of the people but to strengthen the power and wealth of the king. The task of the people is only to take care of the king. People are subject to obligations, both in the family unit and the entire village gets certain tasks by being freed from compulsory work. These jobs include cutting trees in the forest, transporting the king's goods, or other royal dignitaries, providing food ingredients for accompanying heads, transporting the produce of the land, transporting the military, working in the garden gardeners, work in the kitchen and militia obligations. This article is important to observe, because the problems of the Madura economy can be known from the description of the development of the livelihoods of its people.
