Wiki Version:
The paper discusses a new inference (presupposition or implicature) relevant for (anti-)licensing of Polarity Sensitive Items in the complement of *want* and proposes a new dynamic presupposition for *want*. The new inference reflects the interpretation of the action as (un)intentional or (non-)controlled. A similar distinction between intentional/controlled vs. unintentional/non-controlled actions affects other phenomena in the grammar, such as the availability of co-reference, aspect choice, inflection and case marking. This suggests a need to find an overarching mechanism that incorporates the interpretation of the action into different domains of the grammar.
