The GCCR recognizes 3 types of projects. Note that the boundaries are not absolute and some projects may have some aspects that fit with other types of projects. 1. **GCCR consortium project** - *consortium-wide data collection and publication* 2. **Existing data study (EDS)** - *uses data previously collected by GCCR, generally resulting in a publication by a smaller project team* 3. **New data study (NDS)** - *proposes to collect data with GCCR* To propose a project, please read our [**Study Proposals wiki**][1]. ---------- Currently the GCCR has the following projects: **GCCR001** ----------- - **"More than smell. COVID-19 is associated with severe impairment of smell, taste, and chemesthesis."** - Development, implementation, and initial results of a multilingual, international questionnaire to assess self-reported quantity and quality of perception in 3 distinct chemosensory modalities (smell, taste, and chemesthesis) before and during COVID-19. - **Data collection tool:** [COVID-19 retrospective questionnaire][2] - **Data tranche used:** 18 April 2020 - [GCCR001 Data repository][3] - [GCCR001 Research compendium][4] - [GCCR001 Pre-registration][5] - [GCCR001 Preprint on medRXiv][6] - [GCCR001 Publication in Chemical Senses][7] - [GCCR001 OSF page][8] **GCCR002** ----------- - **"The best COVID-19 predictor is recent smell loss: a cross-sectional study."** - We investigated whether olfactory loss is a reliable predictor of COVID-19. - **Data collection tool:** [COVID-19 retrospective questionnaire][9] - **Data tranche used:** 14 May 2020, 02 July 2020 - [GCCR002 Data repository][10] - [GCCR002 Research compendium][11] - GCCR002 Pre-registration [part 1][12] and [part 2 ][13] - [GCCR002 Preprint on medRXiv][14] - [GCCR002 Publication][15] - [GCCR002 OSF page][16] **GCCR003** ----------- - **"A follow-up on quantitative and qualitative olfactory dysfunction and other symptoms in patients recovering from COVID-19 smell loss"** - We investigated recovery of chemosensory loss in participants that previously filled out the COVID-19 retrospective questionnaire. - **Data collection tool:** COVID-19 retrospective recovery questionnaire - **Data tranche used:** date - [GCCR003 Data repository][17] - GCCR003 Research compendium - [GCCR003 Pre-registration][18] - [GCCR003 Preprint on medRXiv][19] - [GCCR003 Publication][20] - [GCCR003 OSF page][21] **GCCR004** ----------- - **"Covid-19 affects taste independent of taste-smell confusions: results from a combined chemosensory home test and online survey from a large global cohort"** - The study was designed to provide a means to test (if used once) or monitor (if used more than once) chemosensory abilities. Here we propose a first analysis with the aim to assess the relationship between self-reported chemosensory abilities and the experienced chemosensory intensities. - **Data collection tool:** [Smell-&-Taste-Check][22] - **Data tranche used:** 23 March 2021 - [GCCR004 Data repository][23] - [GCCR004 Research compendium][24] - [GCCR004 Pre-registration][25] - [GCCR004 Preprint][26] - [GCCR004 Publication][27] - [GCCR004 OSF page][28] **GCCR005** (closed due to redundancy with GCCR004) ----------- - **"Recovery of smell after COVID-19 or other respiratory illness"** - Adult participants rate their sense of taste and smell at home using common items each week to track changes especially after recovery from COVID-19 or other insults, e.g., or other viral infections. **EDS001** ----------- - **"Self-reported smell and taste changes are early indicators of the COVID-19 pandemic and of the effectiveness of political decisions"** - **Project team members:** Denis Pierron, Veronica Pereda-Loth, Marylou Mantel, Maëlle Moranges, Emmanuelle Bignon, Omar Alva, Julie Kabous, Margit Heiske, Jody Pacalon, Renaud David, Caterina Dinnella, Sara Spinelli, Erminio Monteleone, Michael C.
