Description: Despite Latinos having the highest breastfeeding rates in the United States (US) compared to other racial/ethnic populations including Whites, Latino infants are exclusively breastfed at suboptimal rates. Exclusive breastfeeding (EBF) is the gold standard approach for infant feeding up to the first 6 months of life. However, Latinos have the highest rates of introducing formula feeding in the first two days of life compared to other racial/ethnic populations. Increasing EBF among Latinos may be a cost-effective and scalable strategy for reducing health disparities among this vulnerable population. This scoping review synthesizes opportunities or disparities for exclusive breastfeeding among Latino mothers. After screening, full-text screened research will be mapped to the National Institute of Health and Health Disparities (NIMHD) Research Framework. This socioecological model considers key determinants of health disparities across multiple levels of influence. Results from the scoping review will inform future directions of research across all domains and levels of influence.
