Flawed intuitions about power in psychological research

Abstract We surveyed psychological researchers concerning their power intuitions and found large discrepancies between the preferred amount of power and the power of their typical studies. Furthermore, 89% of the respondents overestimated the power when asked to estimate power of specific research designs. We recommend the reporting of formal power analyses.
