Description: In situations where eyewitnesses may be tempted to lie about recognizing a culprit (e.g. culprit is a distant family member, witness has been threatened), an oddball paradigm and its ensuing ERP in the witness may enable researchers and eventually police to identify the culprit without the witness having to do so verbally.
