Description: This research aims to assess and benchmark the voluntary policies and commitments of the formal food industry in South Africa with a focus on their role in addressing the double burden of malnutrition in the country. This will be done by implementing the BIA-DBM framework (adapted INFORMAS BIA-Obesity framework) including six domains, i.e. i) corporate strategy, ii) product formulation, iii) nutrition labelling, iv) product and brand promotion, v) product accessibility, and vi) disclosure of relationships with external organizations. Based on the assessment and benchmarking, we will identify gaps and opportunities for the food industry to contribute more effectively to the nutritional health of the South African population.
