I argue for a new semantics of "glad" that gives up two standard assumptions of previous accounts: (a) the assumption that "glad" is a factive predicate; (b) the assumption that "glad" takes propositions as its semantic argument. The main evidence for this new semantics comes from "complement fulfilling conditionals" as first discussed in Williams (1974).
