Description: We conducted three surveys. The goal of the first survey was to identify the asthma triggers, symptoms, and management strategies that were most relevant to children with asthma and their caregivers. The results were used to inform the contents and structure of the second survey. The goal of the second survey was to understand (a) the cognitive structure underlying caregivers' conceptualizations of their child's asthma triggers and symptoms, (b) how these conceptualizations related to caregivers' perceptions of their child's risk of exacerbation, and (b) how these conceptualizations were related to caregivers' asthma management behaviors. The third survey, which was administered at two points in time, aimed at (a) understanding heuristic thinking and judgment processes that might shape caregiver's behaviors aimed at reducing their child's risk of exacerbation, (b) understanding the social context of caregivers of children with asthma, (c) the interaction between (a) and (b), and how heuristic thinking, judgment processes, and perceived risk of child asthma exacerbation may shape asthma management behavior over a 90-day timeframe.
