Description: The Sustainable Development Goals aim to leave no one behind. To achieve this, a better understanding of existing inequalities between population subgroups is required. Sex/gender, place of residence and socioeconomic status/position are recognised as the minimum social dimensions across which health inequality should be measured in all settings. Measuring sex/gender and place of residence is relatively straight forward, while SES does not have a widely accepted measure, particularly in low and middle income countries (LMICs). The aim of this scoping review is to identify and summarise the literature on measures of SES used in cross-sectional surveys in LMICs.
