Description: North Carolina Department of Public Safety’s (DPS) Responder Assistance Initiative (NCRAI), formerly the Integrated Behavioral Health Services (IBHS), is a comprehensive suite of programming aimed to provide mental health and wellness services to NC state law enforcement. RTI’s evaluation of NCRAI focuses on examining the impact of the NCRAI program on behavioral health service utilization by state law enforcement officers in North Carolina. RTI International is an independent non-profit organization dedicated to improving the human condition. The researchers involved in this evaluation work within the Justice Practice Area within RTI International and are part of the policing research group. The goals of our evaluation are guided by critical questions related to the imminent expansion of the NCRAI program to local law enforcement agencies and other first responder populations across North Carolina, such as how to optimize the value of the array of NCRAI services and address disparities in service utilization.
