Wiki Version:
The overarching goal of the FLAME project is to **advance the scientific knowledge of extreme fire weather and behavior** in order to increase awareness and preparedness in Greece. Upon this goal, the following **objectives** are specifically identified: - Compile the **climatology of critical fire weather patterns**, determining their frequency, duration and strength during a typical fire season in Greece, and examining any relationships between their occurrence and atmospheric teleconnections (e.g. NAO, AO, ENSO) or/and sea-surface temperature anomalies. - Study the **processes and conditions** under which major transitions in fire behavior take place, determining potential threshold conditions that could be used for predicting extreme fire behavior. - Advance **fire behavior modeling**, in particular with respect to accurate fire spread prediction, by incorporating the concept of atmospheric stability in a coupled fire-atmosphere modeling system.
