Description: The new diagnosis of Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder in the eleventh edition of the International Classification of Diseases specifically notes that distress related to moral objections about sexual behavior should not be taken as a symptom of the disorder. Even so, a body of research clearly indicates that distress over sexual behaviors that violates personal morality is a leading contributor to self-reported feelings of sexual addiction and compulsivity. The present work seeks to more fully understand the role that personal morality plays in affecting how people interpret their own potentially addictive behaviors.
