Description: We evaluate the methane emission detection and quantification capabilities of an airplane-based hyperspectral methane detection system produced by Kairos Aerospace. Our team at Stanford University performed single-blind controlled releases of methane as Kairos flew overhead and attempted to quantify the resulting ground-based methane emissions. The results of this study will be of interest to those involved in production, regulation, and environmental protection related to oil and natural gas extraction and transmission, as well as other potential large point sources of methane.
