Description: Background: Patient and family-centred care is a widely accepted standard in pediatric health care, particularly for children with chronic conditions. This protocol describes a planned rapid scoping review that aims to identify and characterize existing family-centred health care interventions that aim to improve experiences with health care for children with ongoing health care needs and their families. Methods: We will search Medline, Embase, PsycInfo, and Cochrane databases, and pertinent grey literature sources from 2010 to present for published articles or grey literature reports/policy documents describing family-centred care interventions that aim to improve experiences with health care for children with ongoing, elevated health care needs and/or their families. We will include primary studies with 10 participants, clinical practice guidelines, and theoretical articles. We will use a two-stage, two-reviewer screening process, and chart data on the population and intervention. Results will be synthesized and presented in narrative and table form. Discussion: This rapid scoping review is designed to be rigorous with methodological limits that adhere to time constraints anticipated for the conduct of the review. This study expects to identify existing family-centred care interventions that can be further examined, adopted, and/or adapted by future researchers and health care providers and administrators interested in improving health care for children with a broad range of care needs and their families.
