**Original citation.** Richeson, J. A., & Trawalter, S. (2008). The threat of appearing prejudiced and race-based attentional biases. Psychological Science, 19(2), 98-102. **Target of replication.** The current study seeks to replicate the finding that participants high in external motivation to avoid prejudice exhibited attentional biases for Black faces when they have neutral facial expressions, but not happy facial expressions. **A priori replication criteria.** A successful replication would find an attentional bias toward neutral Black faces presented at 30 ms and an attentional bias away from neutral Black faces presented for 450 ms. These biases would be eliminated when the faces display happy expressions. **Materials, Data, and Report.** Study materials can be found in the [materials component][1] of this project. Raw data and the analysis script will be found in the [dataset][2] node. A [preliminary report][3] (from before data collection) is available in the files section of this node. The [full report][4] (from after data collection) is also available in the files section of this node. **Conclusions.** In the current study, we attempted to replicate the primary result from Richeson and Trawalter (2008), wherein participants high in external motivation to respond without prejudice exhibited attentional biases when the faces had neutral facial expressions; high EM participants revealed an attentional bias toward Black faces presented at 30 ms and an attentional bias away from Black faces presented at 450 ms. In our replication with high power to detect the original effect and a similar sample, we failed to replicate the original result. * A secondary replication conducted on the web is also in development.
