Wiki Version:
This projects deals with the Gini index as a tool to monitor COVID-19 related incidence and death data on different geographical scales. The Gini index was developed to summarize inequality in wealth. Here we apply the Gini index to COVID-19 data. We show the time course of the inequality in incidence and death rates across the world, continents, or also nationally and for the US and Germany on federal or district level. All data and R codes are provided to replicate our findings. A preprint of the results has been uploaded to medRxiv and can be downloaded using the following link: https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.08.13.20174011v1 This will be submitted to PLOS ONE.
