In this study we construct four scenarios of future contraceptive use among adolescent women (defined as those aged 15–19) in developing regions from 2020 to 2030 and the associated costs and impact on unintended pregnancy of each scenario. The analysis focuses on modern contraceptive method use among adolescents because these methods are among the most effective tools that adolescents have to prevent unintended pregnancy. Planning for future trends in modern contraceptive method use helps ensure that all adolescents have access to contraceptive information, counseling and services, part of a broader strategy that has been agreed upon internationally to achieve improvements in adolescent health.
