Wiki Version:
An abrupt decrease in the number of Spanish journals covered in the last edition of Google Scholar Metrics (2012-2016) compared to the previous edition has been detected. The number of unique journals has dropped from 1101 to 599. An analysis is carried out to identify the disciplines that have been affected the most. After examining various potential causes that could explain this issue, it is concluded that it has probably been caused by a sudden drop in the coverage of Dialnet by Google Scholar. There is still a large number of journals published in Spain which do not have any sort of online visibility apart from being indexed by Dialnet. The drop of this source has meant complete invisibility for all these journals that up until now were covered by Google Scholar Metrics.
