Goherr: sustainable and healthy governance of Baltic fish looks at health benefits and risks of fish and its compounds, including omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin D, dioxins, methylmercury, and perfluorinated alkyl substances (PFAS). There are two assessment versions available. The original Goherr assessment was performed in 2019 and published in 2020. It looked at Baltic herring and salmon and looked at dioxins as the key environmental pollutant. The next version looked at fish consumption in general in Finland and several pollutants: dioxins, PFAS, and methylmercury. A special focus was on PFAS in Porvoo, where there is an old fire fighting site with a lot of PFAS compounds in the soil and groundwater. Some of them are leaking into the Baltic Sea around Porvoo, and the PFAS concentrations in fish are higher than elsewhere in the Gulf of Finland. An exception is Vanhankaupunginlahti in Helsinki that has even higher PFAS concentrations in fish. The new version of the assessment was finalised in March, 2021. The full model code (written in R) is available as a zipped RData file. It contains all objects, data, and code needed to run the model. You need OpasnetUtils package to run the functions: devtools::install_github("jtuomist/OpasnetUtils") However, the file does not contain the code for producing result tables and graphs.
