Description: Studies, conducted with mostly Western industrialized populations, indicate that people with PTSD symptoms have less cortisol sensitivity than those without symptoms. However, it is unknown whether this finding applies to members of non-industrialized societies. In this study, we will measure the cortisol sensitivity of men from a non-industrialized society with a high degree of combat exposure, Turkana pastoralists near the border of Kenya and South Sudan. We will compare the cortisol sensitivity of men with high PTSD symptoms to men with lower PTSD symptoms.
