Implementation of the official protocol --------------------------------------- **Experimenters** The responsible researchers have all published work in the area of ego depletion. One research assistant experienced in testing, data collection, and analysis will help us in this project. This RA has experience with using E-prime and conducting memory -related experiments **Piloting / training** The research assistant has conduced 1 pilot trial with a labmember (Dr. Martijn) of our department Clinical Psychological Science as if she was a participant. **Experimenter knowledge of expected outcomes** The RA has not received any information about the goal or content of this study. After the testing phase, the RA will be asked whether he has any ideas about the goal of the study and/or if he has acquired any knowledge about this study (e.g., via internet etc) **Recruiting** *We will test undergraduate students (age range 18-30) from the Faculty of Psychology and Neuroscience, Maastricht University. The study is described as being on “word and number recognition and reaction time” Participants will be tested one at a time* **Sample, subjects, and randomization** *The goal is to test 50 participants in each condition (we will keep running participants who self-register from your subject pool until we have 50 in each condition that are 18 to 30 yrs old and between 30% and 70% are female). Students can only participate if their native language is Dutch and this is noted on the Flyer and will be asked before testing We will generate a sequence containing 50 of each condition in random order and assign subjects based on the sequence until we run all 100 If Ss need te be excluded we will test blocks of 10 additional participants with 5 assigned to each condition until both conditions have at least the minimum sample size* **Setting/Lab/Equipment** E-Prime 2.0 software will be used. Ss will be tested in seperate labroom at the psychology faculty using Dell computer with 17-inch computer screens. We will use the material from the Dutch lab (obtained from Dr. Schlinkert). Specifically, we will train the RA according to the experimental protocol with the following code (Protocol_49TQVF). More importantly, since we are testing Dutch-speaking students, a Dutch translated version of the step-by-step procedure will be used (Step-by-step_KY1792_NL). This protocol is a translated version from the original one (Step-by-step_KCWW2005)
