Wiki Version:
We base our sample size on the finished (pilot) study, not our unfinished study. A power analysis using G*Power (Faul, Erdfelder, Buchner, & Lang, 2007), based on our first pilot study effect size of Cohen’s d = .37 (IJzerman, 2013) indicates that our study requires 228 participants to obtain a power of .8 with an alpha of .05. For Hypothesis 1, we will conduct an independent samples t-test. For Hypotheses 2, 3, 4, and 5, we will conduct a mediation analysis using the INDIRECT macro, leveraging a bootstrap analysis with 1000 resamples (Preacher & Hayes, 2008). For Hypothesis 3 we will include dummy coded variables to investigate the unique effects of each variable. For our final Hypothesis 6, we will use the PROCESS macro (Hayes, 2013). As a stoppage rule, we will rely on sequential analyses and conduct interim analyses investigating whether effects are already present (Lakens, 2014)
