Wiki Version:

Cooperative Station Information and Map File

To map the data within the tables researchers will need the corresponding station location coordinates. These coordinates are not present in each of the data files; however, the following files provide information about the location of the stations where the data was collected.

This component includes:

COOP-STATE-CODES: a file to associate the data collections with their respective state where the stations are located. (ie: 01 = Alabama) Source: ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/inventories/COOP-STATE-CODES.TXT

coop-stations: a text-based list of the coordinates and related information about each of the stations. Source: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/homr/reports

coop-stations-layout: a report that explains the codes listed in the above coop-stations list. Source: ftp://ftp.ncdc.noaa.gov/pub/data/homr/docs/COOP_Table.txt

coop-sod-stations.kmz: a Google Earth file that provides a mapped location for each of the stations. (This can be used in conjunction with the precipitation tables.) Source: https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/homr/reports
