Description: Overview: The goal of this study is to investigate the effects of acute cannabis use on software programming ability. Acute cannabis use is when someone is actively under the influence of cannabis rather than experiencing lasting effects from long-term use. We will be carrying out a experiment on the effects of cannabis intoxication on programming. This observational study will illuminate which aspects of programming (e.g., objective error rate, subjective self-perception, etc.) are influenced by cannabis intoxication and to what degree. It may also provide implications for company drug policies regarding programming jobs, and inspire further studies on cannabis use during programming or other cognitive tasks. Research Questions: We consider three primary hypotheses related to task outcomes associated with programming while intoxicated with cannabis: code diversity will increase, code bugs will increase, and programming speed will decrease. Finally, we hypothesize that these correlations will be less pronounced in heavy cannabis users than moderate users.
