Description: This project is a comprehensive study centered around Brazil's National Exam for Secondary Education (ENEM) and its influence on the academic performance of Brazilian adolescents. It utilizes data from the 2009 ENEM, which offers a representative sample of students and encompasses various academic subjects. The research seeks to answer two key questions: how does victimization, particularly related to ethnicity and race, impact the academic functioning of Brazilian youth, and to what extent can school context factors, such as ethnic/racial diversity and perceptions of diversity education climate, mitigate these effects? The project hypothesizes that victimization negatively affects academic performance, with potential variations across ethnic/racial groups, and posits that schools promoting diversity and inclusivity can buffer these negative effects. Ultimately, this research contributes to a deeper understanding of education in Brazil, informing policies and practices to improve the educational experience for adolescents.
