Description: As a first step in our project, we conducted a thorough investigation of the current literature on music listening and short-term stress recovery in healthy individuals. A systematic review of 14 studies, and subsequent meta-analysis of a subset of 11 studies, presented little support for the beneficial effect of music listening on stress recovery. The effect of music listening on short-term stress recovery may likely be moderated by musical genre, whether music is self-selected, musical tempo, and type of stress recovery outcome. However, the significant heterogeneity in the modest amount of available studies makes it difficult to draw further conclusions about these effects.
