**Study One:** We will be investigating the effect of vocal accent on perceptions of competence and hirability.
The participants, 150, non-Hispanic, White men who have assisted in hiring two or more employees, will be recruited through Amazon Mechanical Turk to take part in our fully-between subjects online Qualtrics survey. Once they give consent, participants will respond to various qualifying items follwoed by a symbolic racism measure. Next, each participant will review the same resume excerpt and listen to one of three voice recordings, each identical except for accent used, that have been recorded by a single, multi-dialectical, male voice actor. Each recording will depict an applicant’s response to the same common interview question depicting their greatest professional achievement. From here, participants will rate the applicant on their perceived levels of competency and hirability on Likert-type scales. After this the participant will be asked to fill out demographic information and compensated.
