Description: This project investigated a source of environmental input that may contribute to the organization of children's semantic knowledge into a network of concepts linked by relations. Specifically, we investigated whether the regularity with which labels for concepts co-occur in language both: Independently contributes to links between concepts, and contributes to links between concepts belonging to the same taxonomic category. In the study, we tracked gaze while children completed a visual search task for a Target item in an array that also included a Related and an Unrelated Distractor. Related Distractors either: Co-occurred with the Target, were Taxonomically related to the Target, or Both. We took the degree to which children looked more at the Related vs Unrelated Distractor ("Related Looking") as a measure of the degree to which the concepts corresponding to the Target and Related Distractor were linked in children's semantic knowledge. This project contains files and scripts for processing and then analyzing the raw eye tracking data.
